Armin zur Deutschen Treue, Bielefeld

Handwriting: ‘Loge Armin z deutschen Treue Bielefeld’

In 2017, two books from the library of the Masonic Lodge "Armin zur Deutschen Treue" in Bielefeld were returned.

The lodge "Armin zur Deutschen Treue" was founded in Bielefeld in 1844. It was dissolved and expropriated by the Nazis in 1935. The lodge was re-established in 1950.

The books originate from a depot of the Reich Security Main Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt, RSHA) at Eisenacher Str. 11-13 in Berlin Schöneberg. The RSHA had collected looted books from all over Europe there. After the end of the war in 1945, some of these books were distributed to libraries in Berlin by the Salvage Office for scientific Libraries (Bergungsstelle für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken)

The ZLB would like to express its sincere thanks to the German Freemason Museum in Bayreuth for its support with this restitution.
