United Lodges of Rostock

Stamp "Bibliothek der Vereinten ▭ zu Rostock" (Library of the United Lodges of Rostock)

In 2020, nine books from the library of the United Lodges in Rostock ("Vereinte Logen zu Rostock") were given back to the Lodge Zu den drei Sternen in Rostock, which was reactivated in 1992.

On the basis of the stamps contained in the restituted books, the library of the United Lodges in Rostock, consisting of the Lodges Irene zu den drei Sternen, Tempel der Wahrheit and Prometheus could be clearly identified as the previous owner of the books. The Rostock Lodges, like all German Masonic Lodges, were forced to dissolve in Nazi Germany.

The books were incorporated into the stock from a depot of the Reich Main Security Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt - RSHA) at Eisenacher Str. 11-13 in Berlin Schöneberg. The RSHA had collected looted books from all over Europe there. Some of these books were distributed to libraries in Berlin by the Salvaging Office ("Bergungsstelle") after the end of World War II in 1945.
