St. Wendel Mission house
In 2016, two loose bookplates from the St. Wendel mission house were returned to the German Province of the Steyler Missionaries.
The bookplates were part of the library of the mission house of the Society of the Divine Word ("Steyler Missionare") in St. Wendel (Saarland), which was founded in 1898. The mission house was expropriated by the Nazis in 1937. The library was presumably brought to a depot of the Reich Security Main Office in Berlin as part of the establishment of an “enemies' library”.
The two bookplates were part of the ex-libris collection of the Berliner Stadtbibliothek (Berlin City Library). It is likely that items from the mission house ended up in its collection by way of the salvage office after the end of the war.
