Regina Freudenberg

Ex Libris Regina Freudenberg

In 2018 a loose ex-libris of Regina Freudenberg could be returned.

The artist of the ex-libris, Alfred Mohrbutter, made it possible to clearly identify Regina Freudenberg as the previous owner of the ex-libris.

Regina Freudenberg was born on October 2, 1871 as Regina Hirsch in Brussels. In 1894 she married Julius Freudenberg (1870 - 1927), one of the sons of the department store owner Philipp Freudenberg. The couple lived in Berlin. Regina Freudenberg was an enthusiastic pianist, art collector and philanthropist.

Persecuted as Jewish in Germany, she fled to her native country in 1936. After the occupation of Belgium, she took her own life in Brussels on October 2, 1941, her 70th birthday.

The ex-libris was part of the ex-libris collection of the Berlin City Library, the route of access into the collection is unclear.
