Lodge "Johannes der Evangelist zur Eintracht" Darmstadt

Stamp: "Iohannes Evang. zur Eintracht Or. V. Darmstadt"

In 2017, a book from the library of the Masonic Lodge ‘Johannes der Evangelist zur Eintracht’ in Darmstadt could be returned.

The Lodge ‘Johannes der Evangelist zur Eintracht’ was founded in Darmstadt in 1816. It was dissolved and expropriated by the Nazis in 1936. The Lodge was revived as early as 1945.

The book was obtained from a depot of the Reich Security Main Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt, RSHA) at Eisenacher Str. 11–13 in Berlin-Schöneberg. The RSHA had gathered looted books from all over Europe at this location. After the end of the war in 1945, parts of these books were distributed by the Salvage Office (Bergungsstelle) to various libraries in Berlin.

The ZLB would like to express its sincere thanks to the German Museum of Freemasonry in Bayreuth for its support in facilitating this restitution.
