Lodge "Alma an der Ostsee" Kiel

Stamp: "A. a/d. O."

Since 2018, two books from the library of Freemasons Lodge Alma an der Ostsee in Kiel have been returned to the lodge.

The St John's Lodge ‘Alma an der Ostsee’, based in Kiel, was founded on 24 November 1866 and was active there until it was forcefully closed during the period of National Socialism in 1935. The lodge was re-established in 1946.

The books originate from a depot of the Reich Security Main Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt, RSHA) at Eisenacher Str. 11-13 in Berlin Schöneberg. The RSHA had collected looted books from all over Europe there. After the end of the war in 1945, some of these books were distributed to libraries in Berlin by the salvage office (Bergungsstelle).

The ZLB would like to express its sincere thanks to the German Freemason Museum in Bayreuth for its support with this restitution.
