In 2014 a book from the library of Hilda Simon, née Fraustädter, could be returned.
Hilda Simon was born on 12 April 1896 in Berlin. She was a piano teacher, lived in Berlin and was married to Hans Simon, who was born in Berlin on 10 March 1894. Both were deported to Auschwitz on 17 May 1943 and murdered there.
It is not known how the book found its way into the holdings of the Berlin City Library. The book was added to the collection shortly after the end of the war in 1946. In the acquisition journal the Salvage Office ("Bergungsstelle") is indicated as the supplier, but without a specific salvage location. There are also no indications in the book itself that the book was ever processed by the Salvage Office. It is therefore unclear whether the book was actually delivered by the Salvage Office, or whether it was simply allocated to it from other stock.
